Ruth and family,
Friendships are a gift no matter how short or long they last. We didn't know Clayton for a very long time but he and Ruth have had a huge impact on our lives, especially in trying times.
The encouragement and kindness have made our lives and the world a better place.
Thinking of your family during this hard time.

Dear Ruth and all the Gerein family. I extend my deepest sympathy to you. I have known Clayton for many years trhough wheelchair sports; he was always good natured and challenging to "classifiers", and taught us a lot. I last chatted with him in Beijing as he was waiting for days to compete. I am certain that he fought his last battle as vigourously as he competed in sports. Clayton will be missed by so many people. Emilie

As we are all aware, The love of horses ran deeply through all members of the Gerein family. In lieu of sending flowers, You may show your support to Ruth, Jasmine and Zoe by minimizing there concern at this time regarding their horses.
On behalf of the Family,
Regards,
Tracy

My interactions with Clayton occurred in the context of horses and the Gerein family’s shared love for them. I’ve known the Gereins many years. I’ve ridden with the girls since they were little. Zoe’s legs would barely get past the saddle flaps, and Jasmine would get on just about anything.
I think of Clayton as a Dad. A Dad who would, along with Ruth, drive to the farm in ANY weather, spend hours in a FREEZING barn and arena, haul to shows, watch lessons, watch their independent schooling sessions with reminders to “sit up”, and help with the horses in general, no matter what. He was a humble guy with a unique sense of humor and a remarkable story telling ability. We would laugh lots, share stories, and also share the odd beer.
I admire Clayton for being so down to earth and humble. I admire the way he wholeheartedly supported his daughters’ passions and interests. I admire him for his dedication to his family.
Clayton will be missed by countless numbers of people. To Ruth, Jazzie and Zoe, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy and shared sorrow for the passing of such an incredible man. On behalf of my family, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Your friend,
Riva Farrell Racette

So sorry to hear about Clayton's passing Ruth, Jasmine, Zoe, Bill and Eileen. I enjoyed so many years with Clayton on the Rugby court and with you all that I'll never forget. Just wanted to say that our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Clayton made an impact around the world in the sports he loved which meant sacrifices by you all at home. Thanks for letting Clayton be a part of our lives as well. He was a good friend and competitor. He will be missed by us all.

I have over 25 years of memories and so many stories with Clayton. I cannot find the words to express my feelings of how much Clayton meant to me and I'm not going to try.

The very 1st time I ever met Clayton involved beer, a $5 bet and Clayton cursing at a stranger in a hotel lobby in Saskatoon and I was enouraging that same stranger. The poor stranger - He didn't know what to think.

Sooo many good times and even a few bad ones on our many rugby trips, racing events and just living in Saskatchewan so close together.

Ruth, Jazzie, Zoe, Bill, Eileen and all of Clay's family - We share your pain and you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Oita International Wheelchair Marathon Organizing Committee was also deeply grieved to learn of the sad news of Clayton.
All the staff sincerely hoped to be able to see his exciting performance and bright smile once again at Oita Marathon as seen in our past marathons! Words are inadequate to
express our sorrow and pain for the loss of this great sportsman. We extend our deepest condolences, and may his soul rest in peace.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Clayton's passing. My heart is with his family and friends during this difficult time. I knew Clayton through racing. He was an amazing athlete and a great and fun person to be around. I don't think I met someone as real as Clay. There will be a huge hole in our community. Athletics will never be the same.
