I have finished an article about Clayton and submitted it to Sports 'n Spokes magazine. Due to their time lines, it will not appear until the May issue, but they WILL print it. If you have a favorite Clayton story you'd like to submit, send it to me at tommykath@comcast.net. I cannot guarantee what the magazine will do, but it's worth a shot.

I've tried and tried to comprehend this and I've gotten nowhere. Clayton we have lots so much where does one begin. The first is your loving family who are left to carry on your memory and that they will do very well. I know you would want them to live their lives to the fullest. Second all the hundreds of friends you have made boy will be have stories to tell years down the road. Of coarse the disability community has lost there heart and sole.If it wasn't for you most the the programs would not be up and running and most folks wouldn't know where to turn for help your were an inspiration to thousands more than you'll ever know. Clayton it was a pleasure being a friend and I will miss you more than you'll ever know. I will see you one day

Some things are real and some things are hard to belive. Reality for me is you Clayton sitting under a tree drinking water in the sun in Switzerland. I have djust arrived and you are the first person i see. You give me that welcoming smile that always made me feel so welkome. where ever we met in the world. You will still be with me were ever i race.
Rest in peace.

Dear Ruth:
My sincere condolences. Ruth, as you may recall I first met Clayton in 1989 while working with CWSA. From the moment I first met Clayton competing at the Winnipeg Marathon, I marvelled at his dogged determination and relentless quest to be the best he could possibly be. These qualities Clayton exhibited throughout his lengthy and illustrious athletic career and in all other aspects of his life. Clayton's wonderful sense of humour and zest for life , made him a joy to be around. I always enjoyed Clayton's company and our phone conversations over the years. I had enormous respect for Clayton the athlete. However, I can honestly say I respected even more the genuine, caring, respectful and wonderful person that Clayton was day-in, day-out. Like many, I too will miss Clayton. My thoughts are wth you Ruth and your girls.
Sincerely,
Scott Ogilvie

Clayton was awesome, had an enourmous zest for life & had a great sense of humour. The last time I talked to him, was at a provincial rugby practice before Christmas. I was having a conversation with some of female fans about waxing legs. As practice ended, my son walked over & joined in the conversation, as he packed his equipment away. As the conversation progressed, Clayton wheeled into the general area to get ready to leave as well. My son included him in the conversation by suggesting Clayton wax his chest & legs to achieve better aerodynamics. As he winced with anticipated pain, Clayton's humourous retort was: "NOT the chest, that would hurt to much, but for the legs, have at it..... ", and wheeled away laughing.
Even when he was obviously exhausted and not at his best, his sense of humour was still top notch.
He will be missed by all who knew him. He was an inspiration to the world.

Clayton will be greatly missed by many people. He was an inspiration and mentor to hundreds, if not thousands...

Like many others, he was the first person to wheel into my hospital room after my accident. He always had an answer to any question I had, which helped with the acceptance of my injury. Seeing his accomplishments made you realize what a person can do, even though they're in a chair.

Ruth, Jasmine and Zoe, our deepest sympathies go out to you.

Patrick & Joanne
